The IONM Specialist is a Neuro-diagnostics advanced practitioner responsible for providing advanced, accurate, and high quality neuro-diagnostic testing. Responsible for performing all advanced aspects of Intra-Operative Neurophysiological Monitoring, including complex cases such as craniotomies and spinal cases, vascular cases, mapping cases (spine and/or awake) with a variety of multimodality approaches. This technologist does not only perform and provide advanced, high quality Intra-Operative Neurophysiological Monitoring data but is also skilled and knowledgeable to identify and provide an advanced technical description of IONM waveform responses, discusses with oversight physician and surgeon for proper preplanning/approach of cases and timely reporting of critical findings and interventions. Serves as a mentor and trainer to junior technologists and/or fellows. May be required to work extended hours as warranted by patient and surgical volumes. May be required to participate in on-call rotation. Engagement in collaborative research projects is strongly encouraged.
Requirements
Education & Experience (one of the following):
- Completion of formal Neurodiagnostic Technology (NDT) education from an accredited educational institution or hospitalbased program AND a minimum of 7 years of Neurophysiological IntraOperative Monitoring experience
- Graduation from a CAAHEPaccredited Neurodiagnostic Technology program AND 7 years of Neurophysiological IntraOperative Monitoring experience
- Associate’s degree in Neurodiagnostics AND 5 years of Neurophysiological IntraOperative Monitoring experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Neurodiagnostics (completed within 12 months of hire) AND 5 years of Neurophysiological IntraOperative Monitoring experience
- Master’s degree in Neurosciences or related field (completed within 12 months of hire) AND 3 years of Neurophysiological IntraOperative Monitoring experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a nonNeurodiagnostics field AND 8 years of Neurophysiological IntraOperative Monitoring experience
- No Bachelor’s degree AND 10 years of Neurophysiological IntraOperative Monitoring experience
Certifications:
- CNIM credential or equivalent IONMrelated credential required (e.g., NIOM)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire and must be valid for 90 days or greater; BLS competency must be maintained
Additional Preferred Credentials:
- Relevant multicredentials such as REEGT, CLTM, REPT
Additional Knowledge & Skills:
- Demonstrated knowledge of principles of growth and development across the lifespan
- Demonstrated ability to assess and interpret patient data relative to agespecific needs
